How to Instantly Get More Clients from Your Social Media Posts

As a business owner, you know that posting on social media can be a great way to bring new clients into your space. But it can also be exhausting:

  • The endless need to create new content

  • Staring at the computer with no idea of what to post

  • Scrutinizing everything you do post, hoping that it connects with your audience

Next time you’re creating a social media post, put it through this checklist. This is the exact checklist I use to review each piece of content before it goes live online.

It takes an average post idea and turns it into something that’s deeper, more thoughtful, and more aligned with your ideal client’s wants and needs.

The Social Media Amplifier Checklist

Before you post something, read through the content and ask yourself if it:

  1. Speaks directly to your ideal client

  2. Uses the client’s thoughts, behaviors, and language

  3. Gives them immediate gratification (feeling, idea, action)

  4. Speaks to the ready-to-act client

  5. Build like, know, and trust

Ready to see it in practice? Let’s dig in.

Let’s say I’m a career coach who has a knack for helping people refresh their resumes and catch the attention of hiring managers quickly.

On the average day, you might post something like this:

'‘How to make your resume stand out in the job search process”

Now, let’s run it through the Amplifier Checklist and take this idea from so-so to irresistibly clickable.

#1: Speaking directly to the ideal client: If your ideal client has been searching for months without any interview offers, they’re feeling exhausted. You might say something like:

“After 3 months of late night job applications, spending lunch breaks creating customized cover letters, and sending cold emails to your LinkedIn network, you’re ready for a new strategy. That’s where my resume refresh comes in…”

#2: Uses the client’s thoughts, behaviors, and language: Remember, it’s not about what WE do. It’s about what your client is experiencing and the words they use to describe that experience. A more experienced professional might want to ‘land an executive role’ while a more junior professional might want ‘to get a better job and make more money’. Does the person want prestige, freedom, responsibility? Tap into their motivations and desires.

#3: Give them immediate gratification: This is often overlooked but VERY powerful. Even if you can’t help someone solve the entire problem, help them solve part of it right now. You might say something like this:

“99% of job seekers work from an old version of their resume and forget to update the tense of their past job (“I sell paper” vs. “I sold paper”). Do a quick scan to make sure all of your descriptions are in proper tense”

#4: Speak to the ready-to-act client: Consider the different stages that your ideal client might be in right now. Let’s stick with the job seeker example. The person who just started job seeking might feel confident and excited; they aren’t burnt out yet, and they’re optimistic about their chance of success. Alternatively, the person who has been at it for 3 months without any interviews is feeling like they probably want some support. This person may be more ready to hear about your services vs. someone earlier on in the process.

#5: Build like, know, and trust: It takes time for us to get to know new people, especially strangers on the internet! Make sure that when you’re posting content online, it’s consistently representing who you are, your brand, and what you do to help customers and clients. Be honest and transparent. Share your depth of knowledge and show that you know your stuff! Share what’s unique, whether that’s your approach, your background, or your type of offering (chat, 1:1, online course, etc.).

For example, if you have a unique 5-step process for reviewing professional resumes, share that!

“When we work together, we cover five different areas of resume success. 1. Digital design and branding, 2. Turning achievements into measurable metrics, 3…”

Every Little Shift Adds Up

When you’re feeling overwhelmed with creating social media content, remember this - even the smallest shifts can add up to create more powerful messages. Use this checklist to hone your craft over time, and before you know it, you’ll be creating highly-engaging content all the time!
