Does My Work Matter?

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about this question: Does my work really matter?

Maybe you’ve been wondering the same thing.

With the world in a state of deep unrest and major shifts unfolding in government and society, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or powerless. Despair often leads to apathy, and apathy can make us feel like nothing we do will make a difference.

But at the same time, I see so many people asking: What can I do? How can I help? Where can I make a difference?

For some, the answer might be a big change—pursuing a new career path, shifting the way you use your skills, or committing more deeply to work that directly impacts your community. Maybe your expertise is exactly what’s needed in this moment of change.

For others, the invitation might be simpler but just as important—to stay open, to say yes when a request for help or support comes your way. To be a “helper,” as Mr. Rogers would say, when you see a need.

And for some, the most important thing to do is exactly what you’re already doing. Keep showing up for your loved ones. Keep being kind to your neighbors. Keep being a badass at your job.

The everyday ways we show up matter—far more than we sometimes realize. Even in uncertain times, when we show up with love and integrity, we help create the kind of world we want to live in.

A friend recently reminded me: “The work that is yours to do, is still yours to do.”

That really stuck with me.

For me, my work is to support professionals in their careers, helping them navigate change with confidence and clarity—whether that change is big or small.

For you, it might be something completely different. But I truly believe that whatever is yours to do in this world, it still matters. It always has.

What is yours to do?
